The Old Testament talks about the complete destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. In this story God chooses to spare Abraham’s nephew Lot who resides in Sodom. Why he chooses to spare Lot is beyond me as you will soon see. God sends 2 male angels to warn Lot and his family of the cities impending doom. Lot being the good, God fearing man that he is, warmly welcomes the angels into his humble abode and makes them feel right at home. But soon all the men of Sodom hear of the visiting angels and gather around Lot’s house demanding: ‘Where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them?‘ (Genesis 19:5) What do you think they meant by ‘Know’. Well it is the city of Sodom… Lot wants to be a good host and therefore attempts to bargain his way out of this situation with: ‘I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came under the shadow of my roof’ (Genesis 19: 7-8).
